Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers - Head Office

The co-op grades & markets approx. 3 million lbs. of raw wool annually, the majority coming from Que., Ont. and Alta. All 3 classes of wool (fine, medium, coarse) are sold wherever the best price is available. Wool is received directly from the producer by way of truck/rail. Wool arrives in large sacks, raw from the sheep. At the warehouse it is manually graded according to the fibre diameter (micron) & length of the fibre, amount of grease & foreign matter present in the wool, also the quality & method of preparation. After grading, wool of similar types & quality are hydraulically packed in bales weighing up to 1200 lbs. 90% of all the wool is exported out of Canada. In addition to handling wool, the co-opoperates Stockman Supply outlets across the country and a Real Wool Shop Boutique at Carleton Place. The co-op also publishes an annual magazine designed to assist wool producers with information and a mail order catalogue for livestock supplies & clothing.
