CREDIT UNIONS BUILD A BETTER WORLD
Credit Unions are a very significant part of the Canadian co-operative movement.  In Ontario alone, credit unions are the second largest co-op sector, behind housing co-ops. But, like co-ops, credit unions are often not very well understood or appreciated outside of their communities.  The International Year of Co-operatives has been proclaimed by the United Nations to address some of those challenges.  IYC 2012 is a time to educate our members and our communities of the role that credit unions play in communities; it's a time to promote credit union and co-op values & philosophies rence; and it's a year-long reason to celebrate the credit union difference!

Credit Unions have a large role to play in IYC 2012: The International Year of Co-operatives.  This session will talk about the importance of credit unions in achieving the United Nations' goals for IYC 2012, and how credit unions can work together and with their community co-op partners in leveraging awareness of co-ops/credit unions, their role in the community - and in celebrating this world-wide event!

IYC 2012 begins January 1, 2012 and runs til December 31.  Planning needs to begin now for credit unions to gather their staff and resources to take advantage of this 'gift' given to the world's co-operative movement by the United Nations. The theme of the International Year is, "Co-operative Enterprises Build a Better World." The Canadian credit union system is saying, "Credit Unions build a better world."  To learn more about the International Year of Co-operatives, click here.
