• Request a visit from Travelling Cooper

Don't miss your chance to host Ontario's cuddliest IYC legacy project!

We'll do our best to connect Cooper to co-ops throughout Ontario if you send us a visitation request.

If your location (department, branch, etc) wants a visit from Cooper, send us an email with the details including the contact person, co-op/credit union name and address and we'll try to have Cooper pay you a visit.  If there is a special reason for Cooper's visit, be sure to tell us that, too.

  • Attend an On Co-op Webinar

    June 11th 2013 - 12:00 noon to 1:15pm
Lunch 'n Learn Webinar. "From Beards to Eternity: An Intro to Co-ops and their Colourful History"

Here’s your chance to step away from stuffy text books and out-dated docs, and take a engaging, 75-minute crash course on the “secret”, compelling history of the Co-operative movement. Presented in a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek manner, “From Beards to Eternity” playfully reveals the “Davinci Code-esque” connections which link the sector’s story, while sneakily actually teaching it’s amazing history!

On Co-op will be holding a speaker series throughout 2013-2014 for the benefit of the co-operative sector. Most of these events will take place via webinar to ensure they are accessible across Ontario.

  • Member Profiles Issue #2: Community CarShare

Community CarShare began in 1998 in Kitchener with 10 members and one car, and it’s been growing steadily since. In the 12 months between October 2011 and 2012, CarShare grew by 52 percent. In the past 4 years, the co-op has grown from 225 members to over 800 today. The co-op now boasts 28 cars on the road in Kitchener, Waterloo, Hamilton, Elmira, and soon, Guelph.

So why share a car? Many members sign up instead of buying a second vehicle. “Some of our members can’t afford to own a car, others don’t want to because of lifestyle reasons,” says Janet MacLeod, Operations Coordinator at Community CarShare,“but the most basic reason is that if you drive less than 12,000 kilometers a year, you save money by sharing!”
